Body Art Rocks 2009 - Basin Reserve, Wellington
On Labour day weekend, the sixth BodyArt Rocks competition, a proudproduction of BodyFX, was held at the Basin Reserve in Wellington
under the general theme "Magic & Mystery".

14 artists from around the country worked all day to present their art work in one of the 3
categories: Body Painting, Special FX or Novice for new entrants in
Body Art. The evening show was a lot of fun and enjoyed by all family
and friends of the contestants, models and of the interested public.
The feedback was prodigiously positive and thus we are sure to
organise this event again next year.
And here are the winners:
Myrtha won supreme award at Body Art Rocks in Wellington with a
model who was visiting from Germany, well done Miriam! With her
artistic "Moth Woman" Myrtha did not only win her special FX section
prize $500 from TopMark but also received the WETA trophy as supreme
winner of the competition.
Runner up in this section was Darryl Daugherty from Waikanae with a
very interesting animatronics piece. Winner of the Body paint category
was Andrea Hows, also one of BodyFX fantastic artists. Her stunning
blue fortune telling fairy had huge wings with real feathers. Runner
up Karen Havican with a different fortune teller.
This year we had a special Novice section for first entrants to a
competition. This award was won by Aroha McAsey from Rotorua. Second
came Cherie Hughes.
A special under 18 award was won by Hayley Tamaka.
As you can see there are very different categories, and maybe the
next time it is you who is mentioned here, having come first in this
category!
